The community of Covas do Barroso, in northern Portugal, discovers that the British company Savannah Resources plans to build the largest open-pit lithium mine in Europe just few meters from their homes. Confronted by this imminent threat, the People decide to organize themselves and expel the company from their lands. Music will play an important role in this struggle.

Paulo Carneiro
Born in Lisbon in 1990, he grew up in Pontinha. He graduated in Sound and Image from ESAD.CR and completed his master’s studies at the National Film School (ESTC) and HEAD – Genève. In 2014, he began his filmmaking journey with the short film Água para Tabatô. His first feature, Bostofrio, Où le Ciel Rejoint la Terre (2018), won multiple awards, was screened at more than 40 international film festivals, and reached over one million viewers worldwide through festivals, television, cinemas, and online platforms. In 2019, it was named among the year’s top 10 films by critics. His film Périphérique Nord premiered at Visions du Réel in 2022, and his most recent work, Savanna and the Mountain, premiered at Directors’ Fortnight in 2024.
